How much is Mold Remediation? FAQs answered by a Baltimore Mold Remediater

November 21st, 2012

While often ignored by homeowners and business owners, shrugged off as a fuzzy annoyance on their walls or ceilings, mold can be a very dangerous organism. It not only attacks your building or home, slowly eating away at building materials, but mold can also negatively affect the health of your family, employees, or customers/clients. Some common health issues attributed to mold include:

  • Memory lapses
  • Fatigue
  • Digestive problems
  • Chronic aches and pains
  • Irritation of the eyes, nose, throat and skin
  • Sinus infections and sinusitis
  • Skin rashes
  • Upper and lower respiratory infections
  • Headaches
  • And more!

The key to avoiding the above issues is to deal with any mold outbreak in a timely manner. This will not only keep your home and family safe, but will also dramatically cut down on the cost of mold remediation. Conversely, the longer you wait to deal with mold, the longer the organism has to grow and infest your home, and the more money you will need to shell out for mold remediation and renovations.

And in case you were thinking you could save a few dollars by cleaning up your mold problem on your own…don’t. The only way to ensure mold has been completely removed from your home is to hire a professional mold remediation company.

So how much does mold remediation cost?

Well, that all depends on how quickly you address the mold problem in your home or business! So if you find any warning signs of mold, do not hesitate to call a mold inspection and remediation professional immediately.

Shuttle services were offered to students forced to live in the hotels or other properties.

Mold tests were performed in the university’s other residence halls, at which time it was determined that there would be no need to relocate students in other housing complexes. 5. Items to Throw Away: Porous materials easily absorb flood waters and thus should not be restored.

6. Items to Salvage: Clothing can be salvaged. Soak affected clothing for at least 10 minutes in detergent and hot water before machine washing.

Salvaging Sewage

September 15th, 2012

Sewage is one of the most dangerous substances that can enter your home. It can be dangerous especially for babies, small children, the elderly, and people with immune or respiratory problems. Although sewage poses a danger in any building, there are some myths that we will dispel that may help you understand this substance.

Myth # 1 — Sewage from oceans, lakes or rivers is clean.
This water contains contaminants such as microorganisms, bacteria, pesticides, etc. Trapped inside walls or under floor coverings, it doesn’t take long to become a smelly health hazard.

Myth # 2 — Chlorine Bleach decontaminates sewage.
While bleach is a remedy, it’s quickly inactivated by sewage. Dead fungi and bacteria may contain chemicals that cause an allergic response. The affected areas should be cleaned thoroughly, followed by appropriate disinfectant application.

Myth #3 — Sewage-saturated carpets can be saved.
Absolutely not! Porous materials, such as carpet, pad, upholstery, bedding, wicker, paper goods or fabrics that can’t be washed in hot water must be disposed of safely.

Myth #4 — Partially sewage-flooded buildings are safe.
Not unless the contaminated area can be completely sealed off so there is no cross-contamination of other areas. Only trained professionals using specialized equipment are qualified to restore sewage damage.
